User Context

The micro-website intended do showcase the rental house and accept reservations online.

It was specially directed to foreign clients, who were looking for short term and season rentals for their family.

After analyzing the target market, the research detected a need of simple yet curated information about the rental and the geographical area. This info would appeal to the following high-income clients:

1. The couple who is looking for a quiet rental for their family(+35 yo), with or without small children, and want a walkable area that is served by beach and swimming pool.

2. The bachelorette parties clients (+25 yo), that want to spend a week of relaxed time with their friends, with the amenities of housekeeping, walkable local areas, beach and private swimming pool.

3. A third potential target market (though not accounted for at the time) could be older people or couples, empty-nesters (+55 yo), that go on vacation with friends and prefer the quiet laid-back atmosphere of Comporta.

Problems to solve

Focusing on the target market, building the website had some guidelines for all users we were aiming to solve:

Readily Available Info

The website had to be designed to have the most important info on the one-page scrollable homepage, both equally accessible in desktop and mobile.

Only secondary information would be placed in secondary pages, such as details on booking, pricing or policies.

Image is Queen

The photographies taken by the Client photographer would have to be the center of focus, and convince the Clients, almost immediately, to book the rental.

The photos of details were carefully taken to show the quality of materials and design.

Curated Nature Palette

The palette should be cool and represent the nature colors of the area. The visual identity had some foreseen styles that could be incorporated into the website, such as the natural patterns, to improve and communicate the rental coherently.

Implementation

  • The photo is Queen: the website has several galleries that show different spaces and have different objectives. The galleries also have the objective to mark the pace in which the information is given to the user: from broad to narrow information, so they can fall in love with the rental.
  • The choice of the most appealing photos helped to showcase the rental in a more exquisite light, accentuating the interior design and architectural details.
  • The Reservation form was placed in both the beginning and just before the sections with the directions so Clients can follow a path of progressive info acquisition, while navigating the website. If they return before booking, they are greeted by the booking form on the hero section.
  • Easy access and understanding of the different spaces: each information block is color coded and has photos or bullet points that show the essential information, more detailed as the website progresses.

  • To create a distinctive look and feel for the rental experience, we tried to create a laid-back but curated aesthetics, using the natural low-key colors and more formal serif font (to align with the branding identity), paired with a more modern font for longer text.
  • The coherence with the mobile version was intended to diminish the learning curve, if the client changes device.
  • The Header menu was built with anchors to internal links to ensure the navigation within the one-page homepage was made in a smooth way. Some additional navigation can happen in the middle of the page.
  • The navigation is done vertically and horizontally (with the photo galleries) to avoid a very long vertical website and ensuring the context-focused galleries.
  • The information hub is located on the bottom and footer of the website but can be accessed from the top menu.
  • All secondary pages were easily reached through the footer menus.

Conclusions

This project was very interesting to design and develop, specially when the brand was so well established. Some details elevated the perceived value of the property, even if some other options could have positioned it on a different light, for different target markets.

This project was handed off to the client (on July of 2023), who  decided to hold the release of the public website, due to some decisions on their part.
As of January 2025, the website was offline.
